Senior Pastor J.E Storey

Pastor Storey the second of thirteen children was born on September 15, 1954 in Cleveland, Ms to the late Margaret Wilkins and Jimmie Harris.  He attended ITT and Computer Automation.  He has retired from the corporate world designing system, for various fortune five hundred companies after 34 years in Information Technology.

Pastor Storey received Christ at eleven year old.  He joined and was baptized at Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Williams Lambert.  He was licensed to preach in April of 1986 by Pastor J.C. Clark of Sure Foundation M.B.C.  He was ordained by Dr. David Moore of Mt. Hope M.B.C.  In May of 1990.

Pastor Jimmie E Storey was elected pastor of Sunrise Baptist Church on December 30, 1990 and is responsible for the spiritual growth and leadership of a congregation that continues to grow spiritually and numerically.  He has encouraged his parishioners to work and give back to the community.  Through his wisdom they are providing spiritual healing, restoring families, transforming lives, and empowering those who are without hope.

In March, 1992 we were able to burn the mortgage on the church located on 1709 W. Roosevelt nine years before time.

Pastor Storey was inspired by the Holy Spirit to see and walk in the vision God had for Sunrise Baptist Church.  On first Sunday of August, 1998 Pastor Storey and the Sunrise Baptist Family broke ground for the newly structured sanctuary building. With the vision God has given Pastor Storey, the church has now secured most of the surrounding properties. In October of 2007 Pastor Storey and Sunrise Baptist broke ground for the newly structured community center adjacent to church.  God has truly added to the Sunrise Baptist Church family.

He is honored and privileged to be chosen by God and blessed with a spirit-filled wife Lady Di.  Truly she is a blessing to me and the ministry. Within and without people of all ethnic groups flock to her for counseling and advice.  A woman of many gifts for singing, teaching, speaking and counseling.  We also are the proud parents of five children and fourteen grandchildren.

God imparted vision to organize and start Kingdom Builders Christian Center in July of 2011 , a faith base outreach ministry rooted on Christian values and family core values, it hurts my heart to see homeless people and our young adults lost in society ,I  hope and pray that our ministry has made a difference in our communities through first and foremost the word of God ,job training ,housing and resources , we perish from lack of knowledge . We’ve purchased and paid for a 3 unit property in 2014 to help with outreach ministry that will be used rental property, job training and business offices.

In November of 2016 my wife and I joined with Sunrise Baptist Church to make a greater impact in the North Lawndale Community. In 2017 I was elevated to Asst. Pastor over outreach ministry at Sunrise Baptist Church.

We started a program for youth called “Keepers of the Village” in North Lawndale, we have partnered with faith base initiative for Chicago Public Schools (Safe Haven Program) to mentor, tutor, and teach anti- bullying curriculum and feed students after school. We already have made a great impact in the children lives and some of the parents have joined the ministry.

I believe instead of counting the lost out that we can regenerate through Jesus Christ and retrain to be viable productive citizens in society and be great stewards in building Gods kingdom, we will accomplish these goals through faith, love and Gods provisions!!
